Today we’re in Milan, as Design Week returns—an unmissable moment for those drawn to style, experimentation, and new ways of living. With perspectives from around the world, design becomes a way to interpret the present.
Among installations, showrooms, and special projects, we explored several Middle Eastern presentations that reveal an increasingly compelling contemporary design scene. In many cases, design moves away from the idea of a finished object to become an experience. Furniture and works become part of a broader system, shaping atmospheres and inviting interaction.
Cultural heritage is reinterpreted through a contemporary sensibility, giving rise to a layered language that engages with the international context while maintaining its own distinct identity.
Among the most compelling presences of this edition, Lina Ghotmeh brings to Milan a reflection on space as a living organism. With Metamorphosis in Motion, installed in the courtyard of Palazzo Litta, the architect transforms Baroque architecture into a fluid and immersive pathway. Curved lines and light structures create a contemporary labyrinth that invites visitors to slow down, move through, and observe, placing memory and the present in dialogue. The project does not simply occupy space—it redefines it as an experience.
Alongside this more architectural dimension, the duo David/Nicolas explores design as a system. Through a multi-site programme between 5VIE and Nilufar Depot, they present La Boiserie, a modular reinterpretation of classical wood panelling that integrates furniture, decoration, and function into a continuous language. Their work moves between elegance and experimentation, creating environments where each element interacts with the next, dissolving the boundaries between object and space.
More conceptual in approach, Richard Yasmine shifts the focus from function to perception with Vessels of the Intangible. The collection, structured around the five senses, unfolds through luminous objects that evoke ritualistic and symbolic forms. Materials and light become tools to construct an almost immaterial experience, where design approaches art and takes on deeper, more layered meanings.
